Who is the best UFC champ right now?

Who is the best UFC champ right now?

I wonder who is the best of the seven champions? Not pound for pound really because that's how different people mean. No, but which UFC champ has done the most and impressed the most? When it comes to defending the belt many times, of course, it is important, but not at all what decides everything for it depends on the way it was done. Those who have not yet defended the belt or not even played a match in the UFC need not go far down. After the jump comes to the top list…

1-Anderson

You can do nothing but bend and bow for Anderson Silva is a living legend. In any case, the closest you get to it. He was about to fall for Chael Sonnen, but as a true legend, he won epic in the fifth round on a triangle. Anderson is the one who won the most matches in a row in the UFC (13) and also the one who defended a belt there most times (8). Fourteen wins ago, Anderson was booked in a match against Okami. Now Anderson has a chance to wash away the ink plume in the protocol at UFC 134 in Brazil.

2-GSP

GSP could well be the one who was in position one and certainly, he has almost cleared out his division, but with five of his six title defenses in a row that went to court, he does not feel as exciting as Anderson. He is a champion at being sick all round and nothing is left to chance. A match against Anderson is what feels most relevant right now and rather that he takes a break from MMA and bets on the 2012 (wrestling) Olympics than beating the fighters at the verdict. But instead, it looks to be a super match against Nick Diaz which is not entirely wrong either.

3 Jose

If the first two were simple then it starts to get a little tricky here in place three actually. All the champions are so wonderfully talented which makes it all difficult. Jose Aldo has a record of 19-1 with a loss quite early. He has also beaten Urijah Faber against Dominick Cruz. Jose has defended his belt (WEC / UFC) three times and although many believe Hominick succeeded, Jose was better. He has received three Knockout of the night and one fight of the night in his last seven matches. Jose Aldo has beaten Mike Brown even when he was at his "high" really. Unfortunately, things haven't gone so well for Brown since, but it's something we've seen many times with someone who wins and wins all the time and then goes on a loss that is followed by many.

Jose Aldo might get to meet Kenny Florian and it would be a really good match. Undefeated Chad Mendez meets Rani Yahya about who is probably next in line against Aldo or Florian.

4-Cruz

Many might wonder why Jon Jones doesn't rank higher on the list given what he has done and he has every chance and time to be as good as he can, but he has still "only" gone 14 games compared to Dominick's 18 But again, it is not the quantity that counts but the quality and success. Dominick Cruz is a force to be reckoned with. He has impressed gravely and managed to make two difficult matches against Joseph Benavidez who does not go for the hacks. Dominick has defended the belt (WEC) twice and since the class was not in the UFC before now you have to count it as equivalent.

Now it's up to proof for Dominick Cruz who will try to win against Faber in a rematch on July 2. Kimura.se follows Dominick Cruz on the spot with a vlog. Faber had a 21-1 record at one point but now has 25-4 and looks to be a tough nut for Dominick to crack. But if Dominick wins, he definitely deserves the fourth place on this list and if he does it in an impressive way he can definitely go up to place three.

5-Jones

He may be a new Anderson / GSP but has a long way to go. Now he is going to face Rampage and start trying to pick people in the absolute top of light heavyweight. He feels unbeatable right now, but we'll see how it goes against Rampage. If he strikes Rampage impressively, he will get the same hype that Shogun got in Pride when he beat Rampage and won match after match with a dynamic style. Jon Jones is dynamic, strong, extremely physical, and unpredictable ala Anderson Silva. He really has everything to one day end up on this list. But to get there you have to win lots of title defenses and there is not really Jon Jones yet. However, he is well on his way and extremely talented. That someone like Jon Jones comes in fifth is proof of how incredibly good these champions are in their weight classes!

6-FRANKIE Cain

Cain and Frankie are both really talented and fantastic fighters. Edgar has just one loss in his career and the one against Maynard that he went into a tie against. A match that was almost fantastic. He beat BJ Penn twice in a row and has defended his belt. It is not bad pink, but Cain is not completely sweaty either, to put it mildly. Cain has won all his nine matches and is thus the least experienced of all champions, but he is nevertheless a huge talent and in a future match against dos Santos he will be able to show exactly how good he is or if he will disappear from the list.

Do you agree with the list?
